Dr. Nevena Paunović
ETH Pioneer Fellow

Nevena is passionate about applied science and eager to develop products that can improve lives of millions of patients.

She holds two Master’s degrees (MSc Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Belgrade and MSc Drug Sciences with specialization in toxicology, University of Basel) and a PhD in Drug Formulation and Delivery (Dr. sc. ETH Zurich). She received several prizes and scholarships, including the ETH medal for outstanding doctoral theses and APGI Young Investigator Award 2023 for the most outstanding doctoral thesis in the field of pharmaceutics, biopharmaceutics and pharmaceutical technology. Nevena worked in a pharmacy, gaining first-hand experience with patients and in regulatory affairs (Roche).

David Klein Cerrejon
Co-inventor of the OctoPatch®

David is passionate about translating cutting-edge technologies and making them accessible to the public. During his PhD, he has been developing the OctoPatch® technology.

Before working in the Laboratory for Drug Formulation and Delivery, David co-developed state-of-the-art gas sensors for air quality monitoring (ETH Zurich), gained experience in tissue engineering (Case Western Reserve University) and completed a master’s degree in chemistry (University of Tuebingen). He received several Awards and Scholarships, including the Merck Sharp and Dohme Graduate Research Advances in Delivery Sciences and the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Excellence Scholarship. Beyond his scientific career, David co-founded the NGO “Mach Schule e.V.”.

Prof. Jean-Christophe Leroux
Scientific Advisor

Prof. Leroux is a co-inventor of the OctoPatch® and a full professor of Drug Formulation and Delivery at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences at ETH Zurich. He is a pharmacist and a drug formulation expert with more than 25 years of experience. He has made important fundamental and applied contributions to the field of biomaterials and drug delivery. Moreover, he was a co-founder of two successful ETH spin-offs − Versantis AG and Inositec AG, both acquired by larger pharma companies.

Prof. Zhi Luo
Scientific Advisor

Prof. Luo is a co-inventor of the OctoPatch® who designed the first prototype. Prof. Luo is a chemical engineer with a PhD in material sciences (Dr. sc. EPFL, thesis honoured with the Thesis Distinction Award) and a postdoc in Drug Formulation and Delivery (ETH Fellow program, ETH Zurich). He is currently an associate professor of Bioinspired Medicine and Materials at SUSTech, China.
